"We turned to heliguy™ for support with updating our Operations Manual, and they were only too happy to help. Inside a day they read, checked and made suggested edits to the manual, and helped us include night authorisation; and thanks to the help of heliguy™ - whose responses were prompt, thorough and well-informed - we quickly received our renewed Operational Authorisation from the CAA. Our drones will now be used at a much wider range of incidents than before, expanding our provision to conduct search and rescue missions and save lives.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

More details about renewing your PfCO / Operational Authorisation

How long does a PfCO or Operational Authorisation last for?

A PfCO or Operational Authorisation is valid for one year.

heliguy™ recommends that your PfCO or Operational Authorisation is renewed up to 90 days before the expiry date.

Are there fees for renewing my PfCO / Operational Authorisation?

heliguy™ charges £119.99 to update your Operations Manual.

A seperate renewal fee of £190 to the CAA also applies.

Be aware that if you submit a non-compliant Operations Manual, the CAA will charge you £124. That's why it is an advantage to use the heliguy™ renewal service as our instructors are well-versed in building CAA-compliant Operations Manuals.

PfCO is legacy terminology. So how do I renew my PfCO?

The term PfCO was replaced by the Operational Authorisation, as part of the new UK drone laws which started at the end of December 2020.

There will be pilots who are still flying under the PfCO, as part of the overlap period between the terminology.

Pilots who successfully renew their PfCO will receive an Operational Authorisation and will be governed by the terms within PDRA-01.

My PfCO has expired. Can I renew it?

If your PfCO has expired, you can sit our PfCO to GVC Conversion Course.

How long does it take for the CAA to renew a PfCO / Operational Authorisation?

The CAA states that it can take up to 28 working days for your permission to be processed.
